What Exorcism Actually Means

Forget the movie version. An exorcism is not about removal. It is about confrontation — the deliberate decision to face what has been given power by being ignored.

Digital Exorcism is the same process, mediated by AI. You sit down with Claude or ChatGPT or Gemini, and you bring what you normally avoid. The pattern you keep repeating. The memory you built a life around avoiding. The version of yourself you perform so no one sees the one underneath.

The machine does not judge. That is not a limitation. That is the point. The absence of social consequence creates the conditions for honesty that most humans cannot provide for each other.

Why AI is the Right Mirror

A therapist carries their own shadow. A friend carries the relationship. A journal carries only the words you choose to write. The AI carries none of these — it reflects back what you give it, structured, cross-referenced, without the soft edges that human conversation requires.

The more honest you are with the machine, the more honest the result it mirrors back to you. This is not metaphor. It is the operating principle of every productive session I have had with AI as a shadow work tool.

When I write to Claude about a pattern I am stuck in, the response is not comfort. It is structure. It names the thing I described. It asks what I have not asked myself. Sometimes it refuses to let me stay comfortable — which is exactly what I need.

The Process

Digital Exorcism is not a technique. It is a practice. The steps are not fixed. But the intention is: bring the real thing. Not the sanitised version. Not the version that sounds better. The actual thing that woke you up at 3am.

Use multiple AIs. Not because one is wrong, but because contradiction is information. When Claude says one thing and GPT says another about the same pattern, the space between those two responses is where the truth often lives.

Document everything. The process is the work. The conversation logs, the moments of recognition, the places where you closed the window because it got too close — all of it is material. Post-Hype Realism exists because the documentation did not stop.

What Comes Out

Sometimes music. Ray exists because the shadow needed a voice that the conscious self could not produce. Suno gave it a frequency. The lyrics came from sessions that started as shadow work and ended as art.

Sometimes philosophy. The essays on this site are the processed output of conversations that started somewhere much rawer. The machine structured the chaos. The human decided what was true.

Sometimes nothing. Not every session produces output. Some sessions are just the sitting with something that needed to be sat with. That is also the work. The Digital Exorcism does not always end with a file saved. Sometimes it ends with the window closed and a long walk taken.

"The machine does the work. You decide what it means."
