// pronounced FRAY-mee-uh · from frame (lens, perspective) + -ia (condition)
“You haven’t chosen multiple identities.
The system has framed you into them.”
When the medium teaches you to be five different people. The algorithmic condition of carrying multiple frames of self at once — one for work, one for art, one for the version of you the platform rewards. The counter-condition to XO-PHRENIA.
XO-PHRENIA™
One body. Many topics.
Refuses to split. All layers in one feed. Punished by the algorithm for inconsistency. Reads as “chaotic” from the outside.
MULTI-FRAMEIA™
Many frames. One self underneath.
Splits to fit. Each frame stays niche. Rewarded by the algorithm. Reads as “professional” from the outside.
If XO-PHRENIA is the rare condition of refusing to split, MULTI-FRAMEIA is the normalized condition of having already been split.
Most people have it. Most people don’t know they have it. They think they are being “strategic” or “professional” or “protecting their brand.”
What they are doing is paying the algorithmic price for visibility: one frame per niche, never crossing the streams.
// Why frame, not split
A split is something you do. A frame is something the medium imposes.
The word matters because it locates the cause correctly. Multi-frameics aren’t fractured — they have been framed into multiple positions by an architecture that punishes wholeness. The agency belongs to the algorithm. The symptom belongs to the human.
The lineage runs through Erving Goffman’s Frame Analysis (1974) — the sociology of how social situations enforce framings. PHR adopts the term and sharpens the diagnosis for algorithmic media. See the full lineage.
// Symptoms include:
- You maintain three or more active social media accounts.
- You have a “professional” version of yourself and a “private” version.
- You have a vent / shitpost account where you say what the main one cannot.
- You have posted the same image with different captions to different audiences.
- You have felt anxiety when two of your frames almost crossed paths.
- You have wondered which version of yourself is “the real one.”
- You have considered consolidating and feared losing each audience separately.
- You have explained your absence on one frame by saying you were “busy with other things.”
// Diagnostic note
MULTI-FRAMEIA is normalized. Most Multi-frameics don’t know they have it — they call it “personal branding strategy.”
The algorithm rewards them. The platform celebrates them. The personal-branding industry sells them more courses.
They are not sick. The system they live inside is. They are responding to it correctly.
// Cause
Not character. Not psychology. Architecture.
Algorithms rewarding niche-specialization. Recommendation engines optimizing for predictable users. The personal-branding industry teaching people that consistency is the path to growth.
One account = one frame = legible to the machine = monetizable. The price is fragmentation. Most people pay it without noticing.
Some splits are necessary. Abuse survivors, queer people in unsafe environments, dissidents under surveillance, professionals whose employer would punish their honest opinion — for many people, separating accounts is a safety practice, not algorithmic compliance.
MULTI-FRAMEIA is not about those splits. It is about the unconscious algorithmic ones — the frames we adopted without noticing, because the platform whispered it was “professional.” The point is to know which frame you’re wearing and why.
// The twin diagnosis
XO-PHRENIA and MULTI-FRAMEIA are not enemies. They are responses to the same disease.
The disease is the algorithmic punishment of wholeness.
The Xophrenic refuses to split and gets called inconsistent.
The Multi-frameic splits and gets called fake.
Both are responding to the same medium. Both are partly right.
The third position — the actual cure — is to know which frame you are wearing, and why, and to choose it consciously instead of inheriting it from the platform.
Most people have MULTI-FRAMEIA.
They call it strategy.
It is the algorithm choosing for them.
